What is RSS?

RSS is an open web feed format, initially released in 1999. The specification is authored by RSS Advisory Board and offered under the terms of the CC BY-SA 1.0 license.

Why?

Being an open format, it is inclusive toward anyone who wishes to use it. It is decoupled from the profit motive that so frequently ruins the software we rely on in our daily lives. On corporate social media, we face censorship, surveillance, lock-in, manipulation, and the ever-present threat of access being revoked. An RSS feed is entirely controlled and owned by the individual(s) who operate it. This makes it immune to the enshittification facing all corporate-owned platforms.
